

Matthew Mahalik
Research to Operations Transition Analyst
Matt Mahalik is the Research Transitions Lead for the Weather Program Office (WPO) in OAR. In this position, he works to coordinate the policy, planning and execution of the transition of science from OAR to the National Weather Service, other NOAA Line Offices, and beyond. He also coordinates WPO’s annual Federal Funding Opportunity, Annual Operating Plan, and portfolio analysis and evaluation. Prior to joining WPO, Matt was a Research Associate at the Cooperative Institute for Mesoscale Meteorological Studies (CIMMS) and National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), where he developed and maintained operational severe weather radar algorithms and participated in mobile radar and mesonet data collection in severe storms. Matt holds a B.S. in Meteorology from Penn State University and M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Texas Tech University and started his NOAA career through the Ernest F. Hollings Scholarship Program.
Matt enjoys traveling the country in search of scenic hikes, regional food specialties, and college football experiences. He is an active member of the American Meteorological Society, National Weather Association, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and National Bison Association.
