Forecast Rodeo Symposium

The Bureau of Reclamation recently named the winners of their inaugural Forecast Rodeo. The Forecast Rodeo is a year-long, real-time forecasting competition focused on western U.S. temperature and precipitation for weeks 3&4 and weeks 5&6, sponsored by the Bureau of Reclamation in partnership with NOAA, USGS, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This forecasting competition invited solvers to submit forecasts of temperature and precipitation for one year, competing in real-time against other teams as well as official forecasts from NOAA.

We invite you to attend and participate in this unique event that will showcase the strength of new technologies that may be incorporated into prediction strategies, completed through community participation The Bureau of Reclamation is pleased to announce the winning teams: Team Salient featuring Ray, Stephen and Eric Schmitt; Team StillLearning featuring Lester Mackey, Judah Cohen, Jessica Hwang, Ernest Fraenkel, and Paulo Orenstein; and Team Lupoa13 featuring Anthony Lupo, Joseph Renken, Joshua Herman.
The winners will be honored with a Symposium showcasing their work on Monday June 17th from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm ET. Winners will give a 40 minute talk about their work, followed by a panel discussion where the winners encourage questions, comments, and discussion.
