Dr. Jessie Carman serves as the Associate Project Manager for Research for the National Earth System Prediction Capability (ESPC) Office in the OAR Office of Weather and Air Quality in Silver Spring, MD. Dr. Carman is a veteran, pioneer, and leader whose research in sub-seasonal to seasonal atmospheric phenomena has been lauded by agencies across the federal government. She is working to bridge the gap in forecasting capabilities from hours and days to seasonal, annual, and decadal time periods.
Dr. Carman has engaged with the National Weather Service (NWS) to identify research projects that will provide significant improvements to NWS operational products and services. Her support and coordination of numerous research projects has led to significant model development and infrastructure advancements that enable a more efficient transition of research into operations. Additionally, research she has supported has led to improvements in ocean models used by several agencies, including NOAA and the Navy.
