In response to the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) and National Weather Service (NWS) bi-lateral meeting 2021, the WPO Forecasting A Continuum of Environmental Threats (FACETs) Program funded a project to assess the current program and plan for a future iteration of the program. WPO hired Toffler Associates, an offsite contractor, to help with the program planning initiative.
The project consists of three phases. In the first phase Toffler interviewed 49 people to understand the current state of FACETs and its organizational needs. In the second phase, Toffler envisioned the perfect FACETs Program, and defined the vision, strategy, and ownership necessary for the program to take hold and flourish within NOAA. Lastly, the third phase involved creating a strategy roadmap, communication guide, and criteria model. Phase 3 is ongoing, and the FACETs Program looks forward to sharing the outcomes of this project with the weather community soon!
