The NOAA Weather Program Office (WPO) is proud to announce the launch of REACH—the Research Explorer for Articles, Code, and Hosted Data—a thrilling new tool set to transform open science!
Developed by the Portfolio Analysis and Research Transitions (PART) team, REACH connects practitioners, scientists, policymakers, and the public to more than 700 research outputs, including journal articles, code, data, and tools. The platform’s searchable interface helps users find the latest WPO-funded research results, supporting NOAA’s commitment to open science under the Public Access to Research Results (PARR) plan and the recent Executive Order on Restoring Gold Standard Science, which emphasizes transparency, accessibility, and the replicability of federally funded research.
“Open science is truly the first step in transitioning research outside of NOAA,” says Abby Arnold, PART Program’s Open Science and Transition Specialist. “Weather Enterprise practitioners—including emergency managers and broadcast meteorologists—can’t use or put WPO-funded research into practice if they can’t find or access it.”
REACH directly addresses this need by making WPO-funded research easy to find and ready to use. We’re excited about how REACH will help turn research into practice and increase the visibility of the work WPO supports. New research outputs are added monthly, so be sure to check back regularly for the latest updates.
