Christine Bassett

S2S Program Coordinator

Christine is a physical scientist and science policy specialist with a multidisciplinary background in geology, oceanography, and atmospheric science. As a contractor with FedWriters supporting NOAA’s Weather Program Office, she enables strategic initiatives to improve predication capabilities across time scales, aligning innovative research with user needs and operational priorities.

Prior to her current role, Christine served as a Knauss Fellow with NOAA’s National Weather Service, where she facilitated interagency and international coordination to enhance national and global observational systems for maritime safety and operational forecasting. She also worked to communicate the importance of robust observations to maritime operations, economic stability, and national security interests. During her graduate studies, Christine investigated geochemical changes in marine environments to reconstruct patterns of ocean variability and changes in atmospheric patterns. Her expertise in geochemistry, stable isotope analysis, and environmental monitoring bridges past and present, providing critical insights into the interactions between atmospheric, oceanic, and biological processes. Christine holds a B.S. in Geology, B.A. in Anthropology, and a B.A. in Latin American/Caribbean Studies from the University of Georgia. She also holds an M.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Alabama.
