Everisto Mapedza is a Senior Researcher at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) based in the Southern Africa office in Pretoria, South Africa. Before joining IWMI, he was a Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He has over 20 years of professional experience working in natural resources research in Africa and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). 

He has demonstrated strategic leadership, collaborative teamwork, good team management and a grounded understanding that water science must have an impact on the communities we work in. His research interests, which are anchored in the commons, include gender, institutions, governance, and social transformation using the land, water, and broadly natural resources lens in developing countries. He is a former IASC Executive Council member and the current Africa Regional Coordinator for the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC), and enjoys working in multicultural teams. He is also a member of the advisory group on social sciences inclusion in weather information services for the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO). 

He has a PhD from Edinburgh University (UK). He was lead Editor of the 2019 Elsevier-published book entitled: Drought Challenges: Policy Options for Developing Countries. He guest edited a special issue in the International Journal of the Commons (IJC). He served as an Associate Editor for the Society and Natural Resources (SNR) journal. He authored over 25 publications, in peer-reviewed books and journals.
