Ruben Imhoff

Deltares, Netherlands

Ruben Imhoff is a hydrometeorologist working at the operational water management and early warning department of research institute Deltares in the Netherlands. Ruben is a member of the InPRHA Steering Group, where he brings a short-term hydrometeorological forecasting perspective to the group.

Ruben holds a BSc (program Soil, Water, Atmosphere) and MSc (program Earth & Environment) in the Earth Sciences, with a specialization in hydrology, from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. Ruben obtained a PhD on the topic rainfall nowcasting for flood early warning at Wageningen University in the Netherlands.

Ruben’s research focuses on short-term hydrometeorological forecasting systems for quickly responding catchments and urban areas, generally using radar-based methods such as nowcasting together with hydrological models. He likes to focus on the entire hydrometeorological forecasting chain from rainfall estimation and forecasting to hydrological modeling and forecasting.

Research Interests

Rainfall Nowcasting | Seamless rainfall forecasting by combining nowcasting and numerical weather prediction model forecasts | Rainfall estimation through weather radar and alternative sensors | Flood forecasting, in particular the rainfall to flood forecasting chain.
