Justin Gehrts

Communications Specialist

Justin Gehrts is a communications specialist with Groundswell, supporting the NOAA Weather Program Office.

Before joining the WPO in 2024, Justin was a weather content producer for Spectrum News’ digital platforms, informing people around the country about weather and climate-related stories. He was a broadcast meteorologist for over a decade, serving communities throughout eastern Iowa and northern Illinois. He also spent time as a freelance meteorologist in Columbus, Ohio.

Justin participated in the GOES-R satellite Hazardous Weather Testbed for broadcast meteorologists in 2015 and the Weather and Society–Integrated Studies workshop in 2011.

Justin earned his B.S. degree in meteorology from Iowa State University in 2007. He is a member of the National Weather Association (NWA) and American Meteorological Society (AMS) and holds the AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation.
