Kristina Kiest

Communications Lead

Kristina is a contractor supporting communications at the Weather Program Office (WPO). In her current position, she works to raise awareness of WPO’s efforts to support critical weather research for improved forecasting. Prior to joining WPO, Kristina led the communications team at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) in Miami. In this role, she elevated AOML’s communications efforts by implementing a metrics-driven communications strategy that focused on supporting the delivery of AOML’s research on the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the ocean and atmosphere in the Atlantic region. Kristina brings a strong educational background in the physical sciences, project planning and development experience, scientific and plain-language writing skills, graphic design and web development expertise, and public relations experience to WPO. Kristina works to help WPO shape its communications activities for funded projects into impactful and accessible content that demonstrates WPO’s integral role in creating a Weather-Ready Nation.

Kristina earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder and her M.P.S. (Master of Professional Science) in Tropical Marine Ecology from the University of Miami.
