NOAA/OAR’s Director of Weather and Air Quality, Dr. John Cortinas, has been elected to the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Council. His three-year term of office will begin in January 2017. AMS is one of the nation’s leading and affluent professional organizations that supports a diverse scientific community in the fields of weather, water, and climate.
Dr. Cortinas esteemed role will be a foundation for helping to motivate talented individuals to participate in the future workforce, to develop policies of inclusion to ensure the participation of a diverse group of people in all its activities, to champion the cause of the enterprise and support fact-based scientific discourse in all of the Society’s policy programs, and help find ways for AMS to continue educating the nation on these important topics.
