Dr. Kim Klockow (UCAR Postdoctoral Researcher in OAR’s Office of Weather and Air Quality) was recently invited to appear on The Weather Channel’s (TWC’s) “Weather Geeks” television show during the 95th Annual American Meteorological Society (AMS) Meeting. The show taped segments for upcoming episodes during the annual conference which was held January 4th to 8th in Phoenix, Arizona. TWC’s “Weather Geeks,” a weekly program hosted by Dr. J. Marshall Shepherd (Director of the University of Georgia’s Atmospheric Sciences Program and 2013 AMS President), airs on Sundays at noon on the popular cable affiliate. The show serves as a forum for experts to discuss the most pressing issues and current hot topics of the weather community.
During her interview, Dr. Klockow talked about the importance of finding ways to help forecasters more effectively communicate weather hazard information to the public, stressing the need for robust support and application of social and behavioral science research by the entire weather enterprise. This segment is scheduled to air on Sunday, March 1st at noon on The Weather Channel.
Additionally, Kim served as the moderator of the AMS Presidential Forum, which featured keynote speaker Dr. Kathryn Sullivan (NOAA Administrator and Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere). The forum highlighted Dr. Sullivan’s vision for the meteorology enterprise in the year 2040.
