The Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) made the cover of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society (BAMS) February 2024 issue with EPIC Possibilities.
EPIC, mandated by Congress in 2018, is the catalyst to drive a collaborative weather research community network to help develop the Unified Forecast System. It will simplify NOAA’s operation forecast suite from 21 stand-alone forecast systems to 8 by 2025 and is using open science for community modeling and earth prediction innovation. EPIC is a program within the Earth System Research and Modeling Division at the Weather Program Office.
The key messages in the EPIC article originate from the abstract “EPIC as a Catalyst for NOAA’s Future Prediction System” by Louis W. Uccellini (NOAA/NWS), Richard W. Spinrad, Dorothy M. Koch, Craig N. McLean, and William M. LaPenta published in the BAMS, October 2022 issue. The article is accessible for AMS members through the BAMS Digital Edition with the link (bit.ly/2NXyAIZ).
