NOAA WPO Awards $13.5M in FY23
The NOAA Weather Program Office (WPO) is proud to announce the awards for the FY23 Notice of Funding.
FY23 WPO Observations Awards
The total of funding awarded* for the eleven selected projects is approximately $4M per year.
FY23 Innovations for Community Modeling Awards
The competition selected 12 projects from academia, government, and industry with a focus on advancing the Unified Forecast System (UFS) to become the world’s most accurate and reliable operational modeling system.
FY23 WPO Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Awards
The award total* for the 10 selected projects is: $4 M in cooperative agreements.
FY25 Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO)
This year’s NOFO will fund approximately six projects, totaling up to $12.8 million per year.

New Airborne Radar Partnership Will Give Close 3D Views Inside Clouds and Severe Storms
The Airborne Phased Array Radar (APAR) will be the world’s first phased array C-band, dual-Doppler, dual-polarization radar. WPO helped fund the initial research and development of APAR which received $91.8 million in June from the National Science Foundation.
